Offering 3 electives for Winter/Spring.

Instructor: Shirah Neumann

Students will learn how to use fiber art materials. Each project will introduce a different process, including: weaving, applique, quilting, cross-stitch and more. We will research the meaning and origin of our Hebrew names (if you don’t have a Hebrew name you will have the opportunity to choose one!) and a final project will bring everything together to tell a unique story about who we are.

Shirah is a visual artist and educator who loves guiding kids of all ages to explore art materials and discover how to express their ideas through visual art.

Instructor: Felicia Sloin

Explore Jewish stories through the performing arts. Students will be introduced to music, puppetry, movement, art, yoga and more. Felicia will create a playful environment for students to learn about their creative selves.

Felicia is a Cantorial Soloist, Singer/Songwriter and Jewish “Entertain-ucator” who utilizes music, puppets, rhythm, rap and ritual to inspire Jews of all ages to celebrate their culture and community.

Instructor: Sam Coates-Finke

This Spring, we will be bakers. Each week we will be responsible for baking bread in the wood-fired, clay oven for our Kesher community, and some bread will be set aside each week to give as tzedakah. We will bake our way through the holidays and across Jewish diaspora. This Spring, we will also be builders, with the incredible opportunity to design, prototype, and build a bigger clay oven for the JCA. The oven will be built on Mitzvah Day, May 3rd, with help from the community. We hope that all the baker/builders will be able to lead their community in the building of the oven that will feed us for years to come. Each class begins with half an hour of learning that ties the work we do with our hands to Jewish tradition, history, and ritual.

Sam is a teacher-baker and the founder of Backyard Bread, bringing fire and food to our communities and linking to traditions that are thousands of years old.

Fill out the form below. You must be registered for JCA Kesher to sign up for an elective. You do not need to be a JCA member. Please select your first and second choice elective by January 3rd. Email Shirah with any questions.
