Scheduling Guidelines for Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Scheduling Guidelines for Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Being Called to the Torah at the JCA

The Bar/Bat Mitzvah will normally be called to the Torah on the first available Shabbat morning following the child’s 13th birthday. Children who are in the the first half of their 7th grade year at the time of their 13th birthday will be scheduled on a Shabbat during the second half of their 7th grade year.

B’nai Mitzvah will be scheduled no earlier than two calendar years before the child’s 13th birthday. Families with children in 4th grade might consider waiting until the following year to be scheduled so the child has a full 7th grade religious school experience—even though the child may be some months past his/her 13th birthday at the time of Bat/Bar Mitzvah. Let us know if you prefer this option.

Please complete this form by August 1st
If a family misses that deadline, the child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah will be scheduled only after those who have met the deadline have been scheduled.

Read the B’nai Mitzvah policy statement for further information about scheduling.
