COVID-19: HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR AMHERST

AREA COMMUNITY IN TWO WAYS AT ONCE!

The Tikkun Olam Committee is sponsoring a $$ for FOOD collection effort to help both people in need of food AND our area restaurants. We are asking you to donate money so that we can join our resources together to support the Amherst Survival Center, Not Bread Alone and Craig’s Doors. We are deeply grateful that we have already received an outpouring of support, and the drive is still open. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. As of Friday, March 27, we have raised more than $13,000, and we are still counting.

The agencies will use the money collected to purchase take-out food from area restaurants and then distribute that to their clients. We are trying to support small businesses in need of revenue while responding to critical needs of our most vulnerable citizens. Note that the Amherst Board of Health has trained local restaurants in safe food preparation procedures for the current situation. We will also allocate some of the funds collected to purchase take-out food for JCA members who are in need of similar support.

Click HERE to go to the donation page on the JCA website. After you put in your personal information on this page, scroll down to the box marked “Other Designation” which you will find under the box “Please direct my donation to” – and type in your Other Designation as $$ Food

Please think about all the vulnerable folks (including our local businesses) who need this support. We know that many of our agencies rely on food from the University and colleges, from local stores and restaurants from which they no longer have donations. If you have any questions, please call Judith Souweine (413-256-0493) or send an email to souweine@comcast.net.
